The UK investment management industry wields tremendous power. Indeed, according to the industry's trade body, the Investment Management Association, its members manage over £3.9 trillion in assets* in pensions, ISAs, unit trusts and insurance policies. But its influence goes far beyond that. By choosing which companies to invest in - and which to overlook – it plays a major part in helping to finance UK business. And it can have a direct impact on the companies in which it invests, in terms of their board members, remuneration policies and strategies.

As an undergraduate studying business, finance or economics you possibly already know something about the UK investment management industry. But we'd like you to dig deeper. Drawing on your academic studies and background reading, we'd like to know whether you think the investment management industry is currently doing enough to stimulate and support British business, or whether it can do more.

We're also interested in the practical application of your ideas, so we'd like to see you demonstrate how your views would be expressed in the management of an investment portfolio and the strategy you pursue. Most importantly, we'd like to see a well thought out, tightly argued essay that clearly explains your position and details your investment approach. We look forward to reading your submission.
