Privacy and Data Protection

We recognise that your personal privacy is a serious and important issue and we support the principle of protecting your privacy in all your dealings with us. The processing of personal data is regulated by the Data Protection Act 1998 and the GDPR.

This data protection statement refers to the data held by the Careers Service on its City CareersHub database of students, graduates, staff and employers. If you have a query regarding the data we hold please contact Brenda Welch, Careers & Employability Information Manager.

Your data is securely held by City's Careers Service and will be treated confidentially and appropriately in carrying out the ongoing business of the University. The data is for the use of the City, University of London and will not be disclosed to external organisations, other than those acting as agents for the University.

Data will be used for customer service activities, monitoring and evaluation of our services, and for quality assurance and service development purposes.

Under the terms of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), which came into force on 25th May 2018, you have the right to object to the use of your data for any of the above purposes. If this is the case please contact the individual named above.

Data held by the Careers Service is also subject to the central University Data Protection Policy.

From time to time we would like to let you know by email about events, services or resources which may be of interest to you. To receive the most relevant information from us, please update your preferences.

If you do not wish to receive these mailings, please amend your preferences in City CareersHub by going to the My Details section. Alternatively, please email to request to unsubscribe. All emails you receive from us will have a named contact and an unsubscribe link should you wish to opt-out at a future date.

Access to information

Requests for access to information held on City CareersHub will be handled in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Further information is available at:

Retention of information

Employer data will be automatically removed after three years of inactivity. If you have been previously active on CareersHub but now find that your account has been deleted, please re-register.

You can have your account removed on request at any time by emailing us at

Deleting accounts / Right to be forgotten

If a contact leaves your organisation, please email us at and we can deactivate the account.

If you would like to retain your account to post vacancies but not receive emails from us, you can unsubscribe in My Details or email us on, with the subject line "Unsubscribe".  You can also use the unsubscribe link in any email you receive from us.

If you would like to have your data permanently removed from our system, please email specifying that you would like all of your data permanently deleted under your right to be forgotten.
